Hurricane and water damage in Navarre

365 Restoration responds to water and storm damage in Navarre and Navarre Beach, Florida, 24 hours a day. We put emergency tarps on roofs the wind has opened, pull out standing water and dry the house with moisture readings in every room. Navarre faces the Gulf across Santa Rosa Sound, so a hurricane reaches it through the wind, the surge and the rain.

Hurricanes keep landing close

Navarre Beach sits on Santa Rosa Island, and the town faces it across Santa Rosa Sound. Hurricanes have come ashore close to both, the sound rises with them, and their rain has topped 19 inches here.

    Opal destroyed the Gulf front

When Hurricane Opal hit on October 4, 1995, the Weather Service recorded a storm surge of 10 to 15 feet from Navarre Beach east to Destin. Most of the Gulf-facing homes from Navarre Beach to east of Destin were destroyed, and the surge wiped out Highway 399 between Pensacola Beach and Navarre.

  5. 05

The sound reaches the streets first

The Weather Service flood guide for the Santa Rosa Sound gauge says that at 4 feet above normal high tide, Gulf Boulevard east of the Navarre Beach Bridge begins to flood, and at 5 feet the water approaches sound-facing homes in Navarre.

Salt water needs its own plan

Surge from the sound or the Gulf counts as contaminated water (Category 3 in the IICRC standard), and the salt it leaves in wood and drywall keeps drawing moisture back in. Wet carpet pad and the lower drywall usually come out, and we show you what goes and why first.

Common questions

Navarre questions

Can you reach Navarre Beach after a storm?

Send us the ZIP code and we confirm on the call back, along with how long a crew needs to get there. After a hurricane the bridge to the beach can close, and if that changes the timing we tell you plainly.

Can you tarp my roof before the next band of rain?

If it is safe to be on the roof, yes, that is what an emergency tarp is for. Nobody should be up there in tropical-storm wind, so if it is still blowing we tarp as soon as it eases and start on the water inside while we wait. We call you back in under 10 minutes to plan it.

Water came in from the sound. Is that different from a pipe leak?

Yes. Surge from the sound or the Gulf counts as contaminated water (Category 3 in the IICRC standard), so wet carpet pad and the lower part of the drywall usually come out. Before anything is removed, we show you what goes and why.

Will my insurance pay for the drying?

That depends on your policy, so ask your insurer. Surge and rising water are usually a flood-insurance matter, separate from a standard homeowners policy. We do not file, negotiate or adjust claims. We photograph and measure every stage and hand you the file.
